Importing External Spatial Data into the Geodatabase

It is common to have external spatial data that needs to be imported into your geodatabase.  This can be data provided by another organization, consultant, GPS field data, etc.

There are three main ways to import external spatial data into the geodatabase:

  1. Copy and Paste in an edit session - This way is efficient if you only want spatial information imported into the geodatabase.  In other words, there is no attribute information in the external data you wish to have imported into the geodatabase.
  2. Use the Lucity GIS Data Loader - This is the best way to get external spatial AND attribute data into the geodatabase and the desktop application if the features are numbered.
  3. Use the ESRI Data Loader - This would be the quickest way to import data into the geodatabase if the features are not numbered.
