Editing can be much faster if the batch editing tools are used to apply common attributes to many features at a time. Batch editing is only available for fields that are contained in the geodatabase. If you use the "Apply" button in batch editing, it will significantly increase the time it takes to "Save Edits". Plan on allowing your computer enough time to save the necessary edits to the desktop. Do not force ArcMap to close while it is synchronizing edits to the desktop or it will assume no records synched and will try to synch them again the next time you save edits. Depending upon how many features you are batch editing, how many features you have in your geodatabase, and the setup of your network, this could take anywhere from five minutes to several hours. See Fast Apply for another option to make the batch changes.
To use the batch editing tools:
In ArcMap, start an edit session.
Select Batch Edit from the edit tasks drop down list on the ESRI toolbar.
Select your target feature class in the target drop down list on the ESRI toolbar.
Using the ESRI edit tool, select the features you want to edit in a batch mode.
Select the Lucity Batch Edit tool on the Lucity GIS Edit Tools toolbar.
Select the features in the map you would like to edit (click and drag the mouse to draw a selection box).
This will open a dockable window where you can define your attributes:
The system will determine if all of the features already have any common attributes. These attributes will already be displayed in the batch edit dialog. If any of the fields contain different values for the different features you have selected, the field will be displayed blank.
This dialog can also be used for standard single feature attribute editing.
Enter or select data in the fields that you would like to populate. Any fields that are left blank will not be updated.
Click the "Apply" or "Fast Apply" button. Depending upon how many features were selected, this may take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for all of the features to be stored with the new attributes.
A status bar will appear in the lower right- hand corner of ArcMap showing the progress of the update. After the status has reached 100% you must save your edit session to finish the update process.
