Lucity GIS Editing for Street- Traffic Systems

The following feature classes are available in the street feature dataset for traffic system items:

Note:  Refer to Editing Requirements for a description of  the format of these requirements.

• Signs may be inserted in the map as stand alone features, or they may be snapped to poles or mast arms.  If there are multiple signs on a pole or mast arm, you should insert a point for each sign.

• Signals may be inserted in the map as stand alone features, or they may be snapped to poles or mast arms.  If there are multiple signals on a pole or mast arm, you should insert a point for each signal.  Controllers can be assigned to signals by populating the SHG_CM_NUM field with the controller unique number.

• Mainlines should be drawn for any cabling lines.  Each cable in your system must be associated to a mainline.  Mainlines can be snapped to any of the following features at each end:
  • POLE
  • SIGNAL HEAD
  • CABINET
  • JUNCTION BOX
  • METER BOX
  • SNOW SHOE
  • AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

• Conduits are line features that contain cables.  Each conduit has a corresponding main line.  The shape for the main line and the conduit should be identical.  The easiest way to achieve this is to first draw the mainline (if it is not already drawn), then make the target feature class "Street Conduit".  Use the select features tool to select the mainline you just drew.  Make the Edit tool the active tool and then right click and select Paste.  This will paste the main line shape into the conduit feature class in the exact same position as the main line feature.  Use the attribute editor to assign an Alt Conduit ID.

• Each fiber optic cable must have a corresponding main line.  The shape for the main line and the cable should be identical.  The easiest way to achieve this is to first draw the mainline (if it is not already drawn) and then make the target feature class "Street Fiber optic".  Use the select features tool to select the mainline you just drew.  Make the Edit tool the active tool, right click, and then select Paste.  This will paste the main line shape into the fiber optic feature class in the exact same position as the main line feature.  Use the attribute editor to assign an Alt Fiber Optic ID.

• Each preempt cable must have a corresponding main line.  The shape for the main line and the cable should be identical.  The easiest way to achieve this is to first draw the mainline (if it is not already drawn) and then make the target feature class "Street Preempt Signal".  Use the select features tool to select the mainline you just drew.  Make the Edit tool the active tool, right click, and then select Paste.  This will paste the main line shape into the preempt signal feature class in the exact same position as the main line feature.  Use the attribute editor to assign an Alt Preempt ID.

• Each traffic detector cable must have a corresponding main line.  The shape for the main line and the cable should be identical. The easiest way to achieve this is to first draw the mainline (if it is not already drawn) and then make the target feature class "Street Traffic Detector".  Use the select features tool to select the mainline you just drew.  Make the Edit tool the active tool, right click, and then select Paste.  This will paste the main line shape into the traffic detector feature class in the exact same position as the main line feature.  Use the attribute editor to assign an Alt Detector ID.

• Each conductor cable must have a corresponding main line.  The shape for the main line and the cable should be identical.  The easiest way to achieve this is to first draw the mainline (if it is not already drawn) and then make the target feature class "Street Conductor".  Use the select features tool to select the mainline you just drew.  Make the Edit tool the active tool, right click, and then select Paste.  This will paste the main line shape into the conductor feature class in the exact same position as the main line feature.  Use the attribute editor to assign an Alt Conductor ID.

• Street lights may be inserted into the map as standalone features, or they may be inserted on a pole or mast arm.  Each street light may have up to one control center associated with it.  To associate a street light with a control center, populate the Control Center Number (LTG_LC_NUM) field with the associated Control Center Number (LCG_NUM).  Lights may also be associated with up to one circuit.  The light will automatically be associated to the circuit that it intersects.

• Street light controllers may have zero to many associated street lights.  This association is made by assigning the Control Center Number to the street light Control Center Number field.

• Each circuit must be associated with a street light controller.  This relationship is automatically made when a street circuit intersects a controller.
