PM/Work Order Relationship

The relationship between PMs and Work Orders enables you to manage workflow by generating Work Orders from a PM or Work Template. The status of a Work Order linked to a PM will affect the PM's schedule and generation of future work.

Work Order generation

Work Orders are generated from a PM by schedule or meter reading. When this happens the Status of the Work Order and PM will both update as follows:

Work Order Status

PM Status

  • 2|New Work Order - The default state of a Work Order when it is first created.
  • 2|WO Generated - The PM is waiting for the Work Order to close.

Work Order closing

When the Work Order's Status is set to > 950 the Work Order is considered closed and the PM's status is updated as well.

Work Order Status

PM Status

951|WO Canceled

  • The Work Order is closed but will not be completed.
  • The PM's Status is set back to 1 | Awaiting WO Generation.
  • The PM does not require an End Date on the Work Order.

990|WO Closed by Affected PM

  • The work was completed on a different Work Order that was generated from another PM.
  • The PM's Status is set back to 1 | Awaiting WO Generation.

999|WO Complete

  • The Work Order was resolved.
  • The PM's Status is set back to 1 | Awaiting WO Generation.

Note: Several Status Codes are provided; however, agencies may customize the codes. Any Work Order Status < 950 is considered "Open," and Work Order Status ³ 950 is "Closed." More information about Work Order Status fields.

Logging preemptive work

If you open a Work Order prior to it being generated from a PM, you can link the open Work Order to a PM to reset its schedule.
