Tracing Water Lines to Shut Off Points

Water Isolation Valve traces may be performed simply with the Water Isolation Valve trace and the Lucity Trace Solver.

  1. First, select "Water Isolation Valve Trace" from the drop down list and make the Lucity Trace Solver the active tool

    Trace

  2. Click on the position of the main break in the system to begin the water isolation valve trace.
  3. Once you have selected a start point for the trace, you will be prompted for how you want to select Hydrants.

    Hydrants

  4. Selecting by pipe number assigned to the hydrant is the most accurate method of selecting hydrants affected by a shut-off.  If this data is not available, you can have the system select all hydrants within a specified distance of affected water mains.  These settings are controlled in the LUCITY GISOptions.
  5. The next prompt will ask you if you want to create subsets based on your trace.

    Pipe Subset Prompt

  6. If you choose to create a subset, another prompt will be displayed asking for a subset name.  The default is Water Isolation Valve Trace [Date] [Time].  It is not necessary to modify default that is provided.

    Subset Name

  7. Once you respond to this prompt, the trace results will be displayed.  To zoom to all of the trace results, you can right click on the water line theme and select Selection > Zoom to Selected Features.
