Adding an Observation

To add an observation, complete the following steps:

  1. Right click in the grid and select Add Record. The following window will appear:

    observation

  2. In the Distance field, enter the distance from the starting point of the pipe to the observation.  This is a required field.  All other fields are optional.

Note: The Observation # field is automatically by the system; this uniquely identifies the observation record.

  3. Enter the tape counter number for the beginning of the observation in the VCR Counter field.
  4. Record the defect observed and its location in the pipe.
  5. Indicate the Defect Start/End.

Note: The Defect Start and Defect End fields have a special function.  These fields can be used if you have a problem that extends through a long stretch of pipe.  The data for the starting and ending points will be housed in separate records (one for each point).  By including a unique identifying code in the Defect Start field and matching that code in the Defect End field of a separate record, the system will calculate values in the Summary/Custom tab of the defect ending record.  There should only be one record with an ending defect that matches a starting defect.  Additionally, to ensure accurate calculations, the footage in the ending defect record should be greater than that in the starting defect record.

  6. Indicate the defect Rating on a scale of 1-5. One is the least severe; five is the most severe.
  7. In the Observed (gpm) field, enter the actual amount of I/I observed in the pipe due to the defect. This is measured in gallons per minute.
  8. Indicate whether this defect was observed at a building connection by marking the Building Connection checkbox.

Note: If the Defect record in the TV and Lamp/Infilt/Struct/Clean tabs of the Inspection Setup module is marked as a Building Connection, this checkbox will be marked automatically by the system.

  9. Enter additional details about the defect in the remaining fields.
  10. Click to save the observation.
  11. Click to exit Add Mode.
  12. Click to close the window.
