Lucity's Resulting Tasks function enables you to set up a workflow in which completing one Work Order generates another Work Order. This feature is useful for work that requires follow-up task(s). For example, let's say the Storm Water department needs to put in a new culvert. When the culvert is in place, the pavement that was removed must be repaired. Using Resulting Tasks, project managers can make sure that when the Work Order for the culvert replacement is closed, Lucity generates a new Work Order for the pavement repair.
A Work Order record's Resulting Tasks grid lists any additional tasks that should be completed as a result of the original assignment.
When the Work Order's Main Task is complete, Lucity automatically generates a Work Order for the Resulting Task(s) or you can create it manually using the Create Resulting Work Order | Selected Record toolkit.
If a Work Order has been created for a Resulting Task, you'll find its record number in the WO Number column of this grid.
Click the button to expand the desired Work Order record.
In the Resulting Tasks grid, click the button. The Resulting Task form appears with the Initiating Task Code field already populated with the Main Task from the selected Work Order.
Leave the WO Number field blank. Later, when a Work Order is created from this Resulting Task, Lucity will automatically complete this field with that record's Work Order #.
Select the desired Resulting Task Code from the pick-list. The Task you select will be the Main Task of the Work Order generated from this Resulting Task record.
Leave the Frequency, Occurrence Interval and Start Date/Time fields blank.
Check the Link to Init WO (Initial Work Order) option if you would like Lucity to link the new Work Order generated from this Resulting Task to the original Work Order.
Warning: When enabled, this option links the original, parent Work Order to all future Work Orders generated from it. Therefore, you should not enable this function for a resulting Work Order that might generate a large or continuous series of Work Orders, because the chain of linked records would quickly become unmanageable. Leave the Automatically Create Work Order Using End Date option blank.
Save and Close the record. The new record appears in the Work Order's Resulting Tasks grid.

Check the Automatically Create Work Order Using End Date option if you want Lucity to automatically create the new Work Order for the Resulting Task when the original, parent Work Order is closed.
Save and Close the record. The new record appears in the Work Order's Resulting Tasks grid.
No matter how the resulting Work Order is generated (either automatically or by running the Create Resulting Work Order | Selected Record toolkit), Lucity uses the Start Date/Start Time set on the Resulting Task record as the Start Date/Start Time on the new Work Order.
Click the button to expand the desired Work Order record.

Determine the amount of time you want to set between the closure of the original Work Order and the Start Date of the new Work Order generated from this Resulting Task. (For example: 30 days, 2 weeks, 6 months or 1 year.)
Enter the number of date units in the Frequency field.
Select the type of date units in the Occurrence Interval field.
Leave the Start Date and Start Time fields blank.

Check the Automatically Create Work Order Using End Date option. This option must be enabled for the resulting Work Order to start at the selected interval.
Save and Close the record. The new record appears in the Work Order's Resulting Tasks grid.
Lucity will automatically create the new Work Order for the Resulting Task when the original, parent Work Order is closed. The new Work Order’s Start Date/Time will be based on the following formula: Original Work Order's End Date + (Frequency x number of days in Occurrence Interval).
Click the button to expand the desired Work Order record.
In the Resulting Tasks grid, click the button. The Add Resulting Task form appears with the Initiating Task Code field already populated with the Main Task from the selected Work Order.

Check the Automatically Create Work Order Using End Date option.
Save and Close the record. The new record appears in the Work Order’s Resulting Tasks grid.
Lucity automatically creates the new Work Order for the Resulting Task when the original, parent Work Order is closed. Because you did not set either time parameter (Frequency/OccurrenceInterval or Start Date/Time), Lucity applies the original Work Order’s End Date/Time as the Start Date/Time on the resulting Work Order.
Click the to expand the desired Work Order record.
In the Resulting Task grid, select the Resulting Task record for which you want to create a Work Order.
Click the Toolkit in the Resulting Task grid, then select Create Resulting Work Order | Selected Record. The system asks you to confirm that you want to run the toolkit.
Click OK. Lucity creates a new Work Order for the selected Resulting Task and opens it in a new tab, allowing you to edit and complete fields as desired.
The Resulting Task is listed as the Main Task on the new Work Order. Any default data associated with the Task (through Task Setup)appears in the form, and any default Sub-Tasks, Resources, etc., appear in the Work Order's child grids.
You'll also find that the new Work Order's WO Number appears in the original Work Order's Resulting Task grid.
Click the to expand the desired Work Order record.
In the Resulting Task grid, select the desired Resulting Task record.
Click the Toolkit in the Resulting Task grid, then select Go To Resulting Work Order | Selected Record. The system asks you to confirm that you want to run the toolkit.
Click OK. Lucity opens the desired Work Order in a new tab.
Resulting Task Record Fields
WO Number
Identifies the Work Order generated from this Resulting Task. This field appears blank until either Lucity or a user generates the Work Order.
Initiating Task Code
Identifies the Main Task of the original (parent) Work Order.
Resulting Task Code
Indicates the work activity that should result from the current work. The Task you select here will be the Main Task on the Resulting Work Order.
By default, this list includes Task records from the Work > Administration > Task Setup module that 1) have the Main Task classification enabled; and 2) share the same Category as the parent Work Order.
Frequency
Indicates the number of (date) units that should occur between the date that the original Work Order is closed and the Start Date of the Resulting Work Order.
Occurrence Interval
Specifies the type of (date) units the Frequency indicates (e.g., days, weeks, months, years).
Creates a relationship between the resulting Work Order and the original (parent) Work Order. This link is displayed in both records' Work Orders grids.
Warning: When enabled, this option links the original, parent Work Order to all future Work Orders generated from it. Therefore, you should not enable this function for a resulting Work Order that might generate a large or continuous series of work orders, because the chain of linked records would quickly become unmanageable. Automatically Create Work Order using End Date
Directs Lucity to automatically generate a Work Order for this Resulting Task when the original (parent) Work Order is closed.
The Start Date for the new Work Order is dictated by the values in the Frequency and Occurrence Interval fields.
