About Client Maintenance

Client Maintenance is an Administrative tool providing users with the ability to manage database and client information for the installation. It is an integral part of the installation and maintenance process, ensuring proper connectivity and licensing.

Client Maintenance is responsible for the following:

• Launches database processes to ensure that Lucity databases match the current version of the software.
• Creates DSNs and DSN configuration files to allow for connectivity from the Lucity Desktop application and add-on tools.
• Creates/verifies login credentials on database servers (SQL Server and Oracle) to allow connections to Lucity applications.
• Manages Product Licensing to ensure that all purchased applications are available to the user.
• Manages connection information pertaining to the location of Lucity databases.

Before running Client Maintenance SQL Server and Oracle users need to have their Lucity databases installed for all clients they intend to activate. For more information on how to do this go here.

Client Maintenance as a Stand-Alone tool

Client Maintenance is automatically launched during a Server Installation/Upgrade. It is also provided with the Lucity Administrative Tools as a stand-alone product and can be used for maintenance of the current installation. Client Maintenance should be run outside of an Install/upgrade for the following reasons:

• License Updates - If a user purchases or removes an existing product, Lucity will provide the client with a new license file. Running Client Maintenance will perform the necessary steps to update the product information indicated in the license file.
• Lucity Server or Database migration - It is necessary to run Client Maintenance if the databases are moved from their original installation location. Note that additional steps may be required in addition to running Client Maintenance.
• Change Database Login Credentials - If the user wishes to change login credentials for the Lucity database, the credentials should be changed in Client Maintenance which will then update the Database Platform (ie SQL Server Management) and the lucity configuration at the same time.
• Relative Document Pathing - To configure relative document paths for the Field and Desktop program.

  Administrators can launch Client Maintenance from the Start menu: Programs > Lucity > Admin Tools > Client Maintenance. Once the utility has been launched, follow the instructions for use in the Client Maintenance topic.
