Location Tab

This first tab allows you to record location information for your cable lines.  Several fields in this tab have special functions. These are described below:

Field Name

Special Function

From & To Node Type

The From and To Node Type fields allow you to select the node types from pick lists.  You will use these fields to indicate whether the cable in this record is associated with a pole, signal head, junction box, street light, etc.  You can access the pick lists by pressing F9 while your cursor is in a node type field or clicking on a field caption button.

From & To Rec #

Once you have selected the From and To Node Types, you will be able to select the From and To Record #s.  You can access the pick lists for these fields in the manner described above.  The pick lists will be limited by the Node Types selected previously.  For example, if you selected Pole as your From Node Type, the From ID pick list will be limited to Pole IDs. These Pole IDs will come from the Pole Inventory module.  Similarly, IDs for other node types come from pick lists defined in other component inventory modules.

Segment ID

Intersection ID

These fields can be used if your cable is associated with a street segment or intersection. You can select the associated IDs from the pick lists provided.

Default WO Cat

This field allows you to set up a default category for your asset. Multiple categories are available in the pick list. To view the categories, press F9 or click on the Default WO Cat button. When a work order is created, the default category and related asset information will be imported into the new work order record.

Road Number

This field allows you to associate your main cabling line with a road from the Road. To select a road, click on the field caption button or press F9 to access the pick list.

Ref Post

(beginning and ending)

Reference Posts are generally recorded in miles and are also known as Mile Markers. These posts typically do not move when a portion of the road is contracted or expanded. The reference posts will be displayed in the corresponding Roads record.

Org. Station

(beginning and ending)

These fields are provided to identify the original beginning and ending stationing points and are generally recorded in feet. They do not necessarily reflect the location of the Reference Posts. These are numeric fields designed for linear referencing.

Curr Station

(beginning and ending)

These read-only fields are used by the system to reflect changes from the original stationing points. Changes are recorded in the associated Roads record when a road is contracted or expanded. If changes have been made and are not yet reflected in these fields, you may need to run the "Update Stationing" Toolkit function in the Roads module. Follow the link for additional information.

Note:  The From Node Type, To Node Type, From ID, and To ID are required fields.
