Split a Street

To access this tool, click the Split a Street button. The following window will appear:

Split Street

This tool allows you to split a street segment into two new segments.  Streets may be split one at a time.  To split a street, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the street number from the top drop down box (Select Street To Split).  Once you select the street number and tab or click out of the pull down list, the Street Name, From and To street, and Street Length will be populated.  The tool also provides a default name for your new segment based on the name of the existing segment.
  2. Next, enter a new street number for the new segment and identify which part of the existing street will get the new segment number and name by selecting “From Intersection” or “To Intersection” from the choices to the right of the new street number you entered.
  3. If you want to assign a different name for the new segment, select a new name from the list.  To add a new name to this list you must go into General > Street Name List and add it there.  You will then need to restart your street split because the street name list is populated when the tool is opened.
  4. To tell the tool where to split the street, you will need to enter a distance and which intersection the distance is measured from.  For this example, if you chose 50 feet from the “To Intersection” you are measuring 50 feet along S Oliver St from the intersection of E Kellogg Dr and S Oliver St.
  5. The last required piece of information is the new intersection number.  If you enter an intersection number that is already used in the database you will receive a warning.  Once you enter a valid intersection number, the Split button will be enabled.  If you enter an intersection number and hit your <Enter> key, the program will split your street.
  6. If you want to identify an X and Y coordinate for the intersection, you can enter these values.  If you do not enter an X and Y coordinate, the tool will calculate a new X and Y coordinate based on the stationing you specified.
  7. You will be prompted to update the address information for the new segment if any address information exists

  8. You will be prompted when the street split is complete.
