The PM/Work Template module enables agencies to create Work Order Templates and scheduled preventative maintenance tasks (PMs). Whether you create a Work Template or a PM, all information entered in this module (including grid information) will be carried over to the Work Order(s) that generate from these records.
The PM and the Work Template are very similar in that they both use the same form to enter information that will be used to generate Work Orders. These records differ in a few ways:
PMs generate Work Orders automatically based on a schedule you define. Think of PMs as proactive. They're useful for any regular job to be done on a routine basis.
Work Templates enable you to generate Work Orders on-demand instead of on a schedule. Templates are useful for work we may create reactively yet often enough that we want to standardize and quicken the process. Most of the Work Order information is pre-entered on Templates to ensure correctness but can be edited prior to generating the Work Order.
Open the asset inventory record and locate the individual asset record for which you would like to create a PM/Template.
Click the button at the top of the module toolbar.
This button only appears in certain asset inventory modules. If you don't see the button in the module toolbar you will need to create a PM for that asset directly in the PM/Template module.
Under Category Code (required) enter the category to be used on the PM. This will automatically be filled out if there is a Category on the record you are using to add a PM.
Click the Main Task button and select the main task (required). Click OK.
The PM view will appear. The new form will have the PM/Template, PM/Template Text, Category and Main Task fields filled out. The Asset grid will be populated with a new record.
From this point on, fill out the remainder of the PM/Template in the manner discussed in the How to Create a PM section.
This tool works on one selected record that has the WO Template box checked. This tool then creates the Work Order directly without any promptings because the Template should already provide all the information necessary to generate a Work Order.
