Setup: Alternate Feature Service

Alternate Feature Services can be setup for each individual feature class in the geodatabase configuration. This allows agencies to divide their feature classes out into different Feature services. While this isn't necessary for this setup, feature services are also used when setting up edit capabilities for the webmap and in that situation it might be useful.

Setup

Feature Service

  1. Go to the Lucity Administration Tool > GIS > Map Services.
  2. Add a new map service and enter the URL for the Map Service related to the Feature Service you want to use.
  3. Check the Has Feature Service? box.
  4. Save changes and close.

Configure a single feature class to use an Alternative Feature Service

  1. Open the Geodatabase Configuration.
  2. Select a feature class to set the Alternative Feature Service for.
  3. Select that feature class' Edit Map Service tab.
  4. Check the User alternate service for this feature class box.
  5. Use the drop drop down to select the feature service you configured in the Administration Tool > GIS > Map Services.

Configure multiple feature classes to use Alternative Feature Services

  1. Open the Geodatabase Configuration.
  2. Right-click on the connection string and select Update Feature Class Services.
  3. Use this tool to configure multiple feature classes at once.

What this does

When an inventory update is made in the Lucity environment (desktop, web, mobile) the information is stored in the Lucity database. At the same time Lucity tries to connect to the Feature Service (based on the provided url) and the related feature class (based on the geodatabase configuration). If it makes the connection is pushes attribute updates into the feature service, which in turn automatically updates the geodatabase.
