This tab contains a grid that allows users to link other supersegments to the current supersegment record. Supersegments may be linked together to make the model select them both for maintenance in the same year. Two examples for when to use Linked Supersegments are listed below:
There is one supersegment for all of the residential streets in a subdivision and another for all of the collector streets in that subdivision. While these two sets of roads might need different types of work done, it is best to do them both at once. Linking them together helps to coordinate work orders, help lower associated repair costs, and facilitate model runs. When they are selected during the model runs they will both be selected, but may have different types of rehab selected.
As another example, an agency may perform pavement reconstruction by neighborhood. If they have one supersegment for the entire neighborhood, the model run will find the neighborhood's average PCI. Instead, if they link supersegments within the neighborhood, the model run will find the appropriate PCI for each individual supersegment. This provides more accurate results from the model run.
In addition, as each supersegment is processed for possible selection in the model runs, the program also determines if it is a Linked Supersegment. If so, then the total cost of that supersegment and all supersegments linked to it is determined first. If the budget can handle the grouped supersegment costs, then that supersegment and all linked supersegments are selected for rehabilitation. For additional information, please consult the Model Run Process topic.
Note: All supersegments that appear in this grid as associated to all of the other supersegments that appear in this grid.
A sample of the grid appears below. Sort records in the grid by clicking on the headings. An up or down arrow (highlighted in orange below) will appear signifying ascending or descending order.
Right-click in the grid to add a linked supersegment.
Right-click on an existing record to get a menu with options to Add Linked Supersegment, Delete Linked Supersegment, Go To Linked Supersegment.
Right-click on an existing record and select Go to Linked Supersegment to open it.
Right - click in the grid and select Add Linked Supersegments. The following window containing a list of all supersegments defined in the system will appear:
Highlight the supersegments to link and click Select.
The selected supersegments will be added to the grid.
