Key Distances

The Accident module provides you with a Key Distances module that allows you to determine the criteria for assigning accidents to the intersection or segment midblock.  This information is used to create collision diagrams and determine and prioritize accident locations.

To access the Key Distances module select Transportation > Accidents > Key Distances and the following window will appear:

Key Distances

You can use the fields provided to indicate distances from the intersection for each type of collision.  The distance from the intersection (i.e. 100 ft) will be used to assign an accident to the intersection or midblock.  In the example above, a Head On collision that occurs within 100 ft from the intersection will be assigned to the intersection.  An accident that occurs in excess of 100 ft from the intersection (e.g. 125 ft) will be assigned to the midblock.  Each numerical field can be edited by the user. The Units field can be changed to Feet or Meters.

Note:  The settings in the Key Distances module will be applied throughout the system; thus, it is important to carefully consider the key distances you want to use for all types of collisions.  These settings can only be edited by a system administrator.
