Definition

ID Field

The ID field is where you enter a unique identifier for the feature.

Note: In order to identify it as a custom feature, it must have a number greater than 1000.

Name Field

The Name field is where you enter the custom feature's common name.

Auto ID Link

Input an autonumber from the shapefile in this field. This is any field that stores a unique numeric identifier.

Common Link fields and Field Description

  • The Common Link 1 field is used to input the field attribute name from the shapefile that holds the unique identifier.
  • The Common Link 2 field is a secondary field used to uniquely define the feature.
  • The Field Desc 1 and 2 fields are alias names for the Common Link 1 and 2 fields.

If the Common Link fields (1 or 2) are populated, then the Field Description fields across from should also be populated. The Common Link is the name of the field while the Field Description is the field caption.

Note: Only the Common Link 1 field is required; however, populating the other fields enhances the GIS interface.

Source Data Field

This required field is where you enter the table name for the feature. GIS users, please read the following:

Important: If you are using shapefiles, enter only the core feature class name in the Source Data field. For example, if your manhole shapefile is located at : X:\lucity\GIS\swman.shp, then you should enter the following value in the Source Field: swman. Do not use pathing information or file extensions in this field.

If you are using a geodatabase feature class, enter only the feature class name. Do not prefix your feature class with the geodatabase name or the owner.
