Aliases are alternate names for features classes that provide a unique identity. They are used by the Lucity Webmap, Lucity Viewer, and Lucity Mobile Map Mode to identify which feature classes are linked to Lucity. These Lucity mapping applications check the feature classes loaded into them and check the display names of those feature classes against the Aliases listed in the Geodatabase Configuration.
The Alias Import tool in ArcMap is designed to take the aliases that are specified in the MXD for each feature class, and apply those to the Lucity Geodatabase configuration. This is a quick way to customize feature class names in an map, update the geodatabase configuration's alias lists, and then publish the mxd as a service that can be used by other Lucity mapping tools.
Note: Each feature class can have multiple Aliases, but each alias must be unique.
How To
Change Aliases in Arcmap and Import to Lucity
Click on a feature class in the table of contents and rename OR right click and select Properties.
On the General Tab change then name in the Layer Name field.

Aliases can be associated in three ways
In the Geodatabase configuration directly to the feature class record using the Alias Names tab for each feature class.
By setting an alternate feature class name in ArcMap and using the Alias Import tool.
The Alias Names tab has two grids. The Associated Aliases grid is a list of all the aliases assigned to the feature class.
Right - click on an existing record to get a menu with options to Add, Edit, Delete, or Disassociate.
Disassociating a record in this grid will detach it from the selected feature class, and move it to the Available Aliases grid.
Whenever a feature class appears in the Lucity Viewer, Webmap, or Mobile Map Mode with a name from this list, Lucity will connect it to the associated module.
The Available Aliases grid is a list of aliases not currently associated to any feature class. It is shared between all feature classes.
Right - click on an existing record to get a menu with options to Add, Edit, Delete, or Associate.
Associating a record in this grid will attach it to the selected feature class, remove it from this grid, and add it to the Associated Aliases grid for the selected feature class.
How To
Add an Alias in a grid
Right click in the grid and select Add. The following popup will appear.
Enter the alias name and click OK.
Note: Aliases apply to the feature class and any replica feature classes.
