Insert a Structure

The Insert a Structure option allows you to add a new structure to an existing sewer line. When you insert a structure, you will create two lines where there was previously just one. This tool will then update and transfer the Attributes, Construction data, Elevations, and work orders to both sewer lines. The observations (TV, Smoke Tests, and Line Lamping) will be carried over to the correct portion of the pipe only. For example, Sewer TV Observations are recorded at specific locations along the length of the pipe. When the manhole is inserted a certain distance from the structure, the system will identify which new line contains the previous observation information. Alternatively, you may receive a dialog asking for you to input which line an observation belongs to. This is included in the steps below. Once you select a specific line (upstream or downstream from the inserted structure), those observations will be carried over to that line only.

Note: If you are just drawing a new manhole and it is not on top of an existing sewer line, you do not need to use Sewer Tools.

Upon selecting the Insert a Structure option, the following window will appear:

1. Enter the pipe to which you would like to add a new structure.
2. Select an existing upstream structure number from the drop-down list. 

   Note: If you used the Manhole Filter, this drop-down menu will be limited by your filter selection.

3. When the US Structure is selected, the corresponding DS Structure and Footage will be automatically entered by the system.  
4. Enter the new structure number to be inserted in the "Select Structure to Insert" field.
5. Enter the new structure's location information:
   • Select whether the distance to the new structure is measured from the existing upstream or downstream structure.
   • Enter the distance in feet from the existing structure to the new structure.
6. Enter offset information if the new structure is not in-line with the existing US and DS structures:
   • When looking upstream or downstream along the existing line, select an offset direction (none, left, or right).
   • Enter the offset distance in feet.
   • Indicate whether you are looking US to DS along the existing line or DS to US.
7. Click . A window similar to the following may appear:

   

8. This dialog will display the Upstream Structure, Inserted Structure, and Downstream Structure, as well as list any applicable observations. You'll need to double-click on the Pipe Source to indicate whether this observation should be applied to pipe record Upstream or Downstream from the inserted manhole. Once the structure has been inserted, the observations in this dialog will be applied to the applicable record only.
9. Click OK.
10. You'll return to the Insert Manhole dialog. Click to close the window. When the insertion process is complete, you'll receive a confirmation window.
