Water Flushing

This section contains data on the Water Flushing Route and Water Flushing History modules.

How To Use the Water Flushing Modules

  1. Create a list of Pressure Zones.
    1. Open the Water Hydrants module and go to the Pressure Zone field on the Attributes tab.
    2. Click the field caption or press F9 for a pick-list of Pressure Zones.
    3. Add all of the Pressure Zones you plan to use to this list. This list is shared by all the Pressure Zone fields throughout the Water modules.
  2. Separate Hydrants, Valves, and Pipes into Pressure Zones.
    1. Create a filter or subset of hydrants for each pressure zone. Filters can be created in the module. Subsets can be created in the module or in a map.
    2. Open the Water Hydrant module and load the filter or subset.
    3. Ctrl + Right-click in the Pressure Zone field and select Global Edit.
    4. Under New Value, select the desired Pressure Zone from the list.
    5. Under Apply Changes To, select Current Filter.
    6. Click Update. All of the Hydrant records in the current filter or subset are assigned to the selected Pressure Zone.
    7. Repeat this process for all Hydrants, Valves, and Pipes.
  3. Create a Hydrant Flushing Route.
    1. Go to the Hydrant Flushing Route module and click to create a new record.
    2. Enter a Route ID (required).
    3. On the Hydrants tab, add a list of Hydrants to be flushed and enter the sequence in which they will be flushed.
      • (Optional) Lucity suggests adding a fake or unrelated Hydrant record at the end of the flushing route. This hydrant can then be used for post-flush wrap-up tasks.
    4. Select each Hydrant in the list and identify the Valves that will be exercised during the flush. Mark whether they should be opened or closed during the flush.
    5. Select each Hydrant in the list and identify the the Pipes that will be flushed along with the hydrant.
    6. Select the last Hydrant in the list (or the optional fake hydrant).
    7. Right-click in the Valves grid and select Open Closed Valves. The program will search all of the hydrants on the flush route for valves that are supposed to be closed during the flush. Next it checks to see if that valve was reopened at a later hydrant. The system then attaches all valves that were never reopened to the final Hydrant record and marks them as Set Valve to Open. This is an easy way to identify which valves need to be re-opened after the flush.
  4. Create a Hydrant Flushing History record.
    1. When it is time to actually perform the flush on the Flushing Route, go to the Route record.
    2. Open the Toolkit and run the Create Flushing History and WO tool. A Flushing History record will be created for the route.
  5. Perform the Hydrant Flush.
    1. Open the Hydrant Flushing History record.
    2. Select the first record in the Hydrants grid.
    3. Open/Close the valves as directed, and record that these actions were completed in the Valves grid.
    4. Flush the hydrant and record the results on the record in the Hydrants grid.
    5. Repeat for all hydrants.
