Distresses Tab

This tab records information about the condition of the subsegment. At the top is a field to estimate how much patching could be done. Below that is a grid that records data on specific pavement distress types and the severity and density of each type.

Distresses are types of damage that a subsegment is displaying. These distresses are associated with pavement types in the Pavement/Distress Matchups module. If the Pavement Type was included on the Subsegment record, the Distresses grid will automatically be populated by the system when the Alt Seg ID is selected on the inspection record. Alternatively, if the pavement type was not included on the Subsegment record, the distresses grid will be populated once a Pavement Type is selected on the inspection record.

Note: If the pavement type is changed after the distresses grid is populated, an error message will appear.

A sample of the grid appears below. Sort records in the grid by clicking on the headings. An up or down arrow (highlighted in orange below) will appear signifying ascending or descending order.

In the grid select one or more Distress records that have a Yes in the Use S/D? column. These distress factors allow a Severity/Density rating.
Note: You can alter these settings in the Pavement Setup, Severity/Density Setup module.
Right-click and select Set Severity/Density. The following window will appear:
Enter the Severity and Density values in the fields provided and click OK. The changes will then appear in the grid.
Note: When severity and density values are entered, the system will automatically calculate their effect on the corresponding rating.

In the grid select one or more Distress records
Right-click and select Set Rating. The following window will appear:
Enter the rating and click OK. 10 is the max/best rating that can be given.
The changes will appear in the grid.

In the grid select one or more Distress records
Right-click and select Set Rating to 10. This is the max/best rating that can be given.
The changes will appear in the grid.

Note: Rating values only need to be entered for those distresses with necessary deductions. If the distress is not present on the pavement or is in good condition with no need for a deduction, leave the rating blank. This has the same effect as setting the rating to 10. This also helps save time when creating your Field Inspection records.

Once the ratings have been set, the system will calculate the initial deduct, final deduct, and PCI in the following manner:

10 - Rating = Initial Deduct
Initial Deduct x Weighting Factor = Final Deduct
The total of the Final Deducts is used to find PCI. PCI is discussed further in the following tab.
Note: The system performs these calculations automatically when the ratings values are altered.

Field	Function
Patching Est (SY)	Enter an estimate of how many square yards of patching the subsegment needs. If this record is the most recent inspection, this value will be used to calculate the Total Patching and Patching % field on the SuperSegment > Condition Tab.
