Email Notifications can also be used to send text messages to a cell phone or pager. This feature can help keep employees in the field up to date about new requests or work orders.
Note: The system administrator must configure the SMTP Server and the From Email Address before the email notifications will work. (Go to Lucity Web > Admin Portal > Settings > System Settings > Email section to do so.)
Important - Lucity's ability to send text message notifications is not a function of Lucity. It is a side benefit of how mobile service providers process emails sent to a phone number. Therefore, this function does not fall under Lucity Support and while we may try to help there is often nothing we can do. If your text message comes across with strange formatting it is likely due to how the mobile service provider is formatting the email.
Considerations
Text messages are limited to approximately 160 characters. This includes the recipient (To:) portion of the text. If a text's recipients and message exceed 160 characters, the system may not send the message.
Open the System Configuration >Notifications module.
Click the button. The Notification Setup form appears.
Enter a unique title for the notification in the Notification Label field. This is the name that will appear in relevant Notification pick-lists.
Note: It may be useful for the title to specify that this is a text message.
Select Email as the Notification Type.
Select the module in which this notification will be used. (The Notification will appear as a pick-list option in this module.)
Enter the email address of the pager or cellphone for each recipient in the Recipient List field. Below are two common vendors and their email configurations. For other vendors, consult the owner’s manual or visit the vendor's website.
Note: When entering multiple email addresses, use a semi-colon (NOT a comma) between each address.
Enter the message to be sent into the Subject line. Do not use the email body tab unless the recipient can view extended text in a single message.
Note: All other fields will be grayed out, as they do not apply to this type of Notification.
Click the button to save the Email Notification.
Note: The address format used in Step 6 should also be used in fields that Notifications automatically pull addresses from, like the Employee Email Address field.
