Attach/Detach Children records

Often records can or must be associated with (attached to) another record. For example, users can attach two related assets, such as a Hydrant record and a Water Pipe record. In some cases, however, a record must be attached to a parent record. For example, when users create inspections and tests, the system requires that they are associated with an asset. (A Water Hydrant Flow Test record must be linked to a Hydrant record.)

Users can add or associate records in child grids. The Add/Delete and Attach/Detach tools appear in child grids for this purpose.

• The Add/Delete tools usually appear in places where the child grid is tracking records that must be associated with the parent.
• The Attach/Detach usually appear in places where the child grid is tracking records that can be associated with the parent, but are not dependent on the parent.

  Note: If the Attach/Detach tools are not available, either: 1) The current user doesn't have permission; 2) the function has been disabled; or 3) those records cannot be created/attached from this module, only viewed.
