The Components tab enables users to document the structure's frame, grade adjustment information, cone details, wall material, dimensions, step condition, structure depth, and other attributes. These fields are described in the table below:

Frame Offset (in) |
Record any distance (offset) between the frame and the grade adjustment, top of the cone, or flat-top section of the frame. |
Riser Height (in) |
The height of the riser. A riser is a circular metal extension that fits into the top of the frame and raises the cover a short distance (typically two or three inches). It is sometimes held in place by set screws. Record the distance in inches from the bottom edge of the lowest riser to the bearing surface or seat upon which the cover rests. |
Grade Adjustment |
The material that forms the vertical portion of the manhole between the bottom of the frame and the top of the cone or flat top. |
Grade Adjustment Depth (in) |
The distance from the bottom of the frame to the top of the cone or flat top. If none exists, or if it cannot be determined where the adjustment begins or ends, enter 0. |
Grade Adj Min Dia (in) |
The minimum clear opening within the grade adjustment (in inches). |
Cone/Top Cone/Top Shape |
Material used in construction and shape of the cone or flat top observed. |
Wall Material Liner |
Type of wall material and lining used in the structure. |
Dia/Length (in) |
The minimum diameter encountered below the cone and above the bench. In this field, record (in inches) the diameter immediately above the wall-to-bench joint. When the cone extends completely down to the bench, record the diameter at the cone and bench joint. If the manhole is not round, indicate the length of the manhole (in inches). |
Width (in) |
If the structure is not circular, then you can use the width field to designate the shorter length. |
Bench Trough Pipe Seal Steps |
Use these code-description pick lists to indicate the type of bench, trough, pipe seal, and steps present. Note: For the Trough, indicate "1 - None" if no trough exists and the water pools before exiting the manhole. For the Bench and Trough, indicate "2 - Precast" only if it is very apparent that the bench and invert were formed and poured as part of the manhole manufacturing process. |

Structure Depth (ft) |
The distance (in feet) from the center of the trough to the center of the frame opening. |
Surcharge Evid (ft) |
This refers to evidence of solids, papers, debris, or grease deposits on the sides of the manhole, indicating that sewage has risen above the crown of the outgoing pipe. If evidence is present, indicate the distance (in feet) from the center of the trough to the debris line. If no evidence is present, indicate '0' for None. |
