Location Tab

The Location tab has fields that record a street address, or two streets to indicate an intersection.  You can include the Segment ID and Node ID to associate your pole with a street segment or intersection.  There are also fields that document a location using GPS coordinates.  You are not required to record GPS coordinate data in these fields, particularly if you use a geodatabase to maintain this information.  These fields are only provided for your convenience.  Other fields related to maps and drawings are available for your specific documentation needs.

In addition, several location fields are provided that are specific to the Transportation modules. These are defined below:

Field Name

Definition

Travel Direction

The direction of travel that the station and offset values correspond with.

Station

The centerline station of the location of the pole with respect to the segment endpoints measured from the travel direction as indicated in the Travel Direction field.

Example: If a 1000 foot segment of Main Street from 1st Street to 2nd Street is inventoried and a pole is found 50 feet from 2nd Street, the correct station would be 950 feet.

Offset

A centerline offset direction for the post or pole.

Offset Direction

The direction of the offset (i.e. left, right, north, south).

Road Number

This field allows you to associate your pole with a road from the Road. To select a road, click on the field caption button or press F9 to access the pick list.

Ref Post

Reference Posts are generally recorded in miles and are also known as Mile Markers. These posts typically do not move when a portion of the road is contracted or expanded. The reference post will be displayed in the corresponding Roads record.

Org. Station

This field is provided to identify the original stationing point and is generally recorded in feet. Stationing does not necessarily reflect the location of the Reference Post. This is a numeric field designed for linear referencing.

Curr Station

This read-only field is used by the system to reflect changes from the original stationing point. Changes are recorded in the associated Roads record when a road is contracted or expanded. If changes have been made and are not yet reflected in these fields, you may need to run the "Update Stationing" Toolkit function in the Roads module. Follow the link for additional information.
