The Sign Library stores a list of standard signs and their related attributes. This information is derived from the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The library data is based on the codes, colors, and shapes outlined within that manual.
In the MUTCD, each type of sign is given a unique code. For example, all STOP signs are R1-1. The attributes for all STOP signs are the same, except for size. Agencies can add new records to the library based on variations of sign size, variable information (like speed limit), or state and local signs.
