Causes Header Data

At the top of the module window you will see header data. This data remains at the top of your screen as you use the tabs to navigate through the record. The header fields are described in the table below:

Field Name

Definition

Cause

This field allows you to identify or name the cause you will be entering. This is a required field that features two parts: the numerical code and the cause description or name.

Note: Be careful not to confuse a cause with a problem. A cause is something that creates a problem that in turn creates a work order request. Causes include events such as a flood, severe storm, vandalism, or accident. For example, if there is severe flood in the area and part of the road washes out, the road washing out is the problem while the cause is the flood.

Warning: Changes made to the Cause code or description will only affect future records in the Work Orders system; historical data will not be updated. The codes and descriptions used previously will no longer be available for filtering.

Cause Status

This is a code-description field that allows you to select a status for the cause, such as inactive or active.

Active Cause Button

This checkbox has a special function. If marked, this cause will appear in the Cause pick list as an active selection in the Work Request module. If this box is not marked, the cause will not be available for selection.

Note:  You can manually adjust the field properties so that this button is marked by default upon adding a new record.  To do this, Right-click + Ctrl on the button and select Field Properties.  In the Default Value window (circled in red below), select "Yes".
