Observations

Observation records store information about the condition of the structure at a specific point.

condition

Field

Function

Distance *

Denotes the distance from the beginning of the inspection to the point of the observation. Measured in feet or meters, to one decimal place.

Seq #

Specifies the order in which the observation was made during the inspection.

Counter

Indicates the time into the video (in seconds) of the identified condition.

MH Comp Type

Identifies the component of the structure in which the observation occurred.

MACP Code *

Indicates the type of defect/observation discovered during the inspection. The chosen defect determines how the program calculates the rest of the fields.

Continuous

Identifies the beginning or end of a continuous defect. Continuous defects run along the length of a structure.

If this is the observation of the beginning of a defect, enter an S (for Start) in this field. If this is the end of the defect, enter a F (for finish) in this field. After the S or F, enter a number to link the start and end of the defect so that the continuous defect's end points match (e.g., S2, F2 or S6, F6).

Dimension 1

Indicates the dimensions of teh defects to the nearest inch or millimeter.

Dimension 2

Measures the intrusion of the tap or the width of noncircular connecting structures to the nearest inch or millimeter.

Percent

Expresses the percentage value of a defect. For example, if the defect is debris blocking the structure, what percentage of the structure is blocked?

Near a Joint

Indicates a defect located near a joint.

Near a Step

Indicates a defect located near a step.

Clock At/From

Clock To

Specifies the location of observations that run along the circumference of the structure, as compared to positions on the face of a clock. Use the Clock At/From field to enter the clock position where the defect starts. Follow the defect around clockwise and use the Clock To field to mark the end of the defect.

Structural Grade

Describes the grade of structural damage at the observation. The system automatically calculates the grade based on MACP Standards, taking the Clock At/From, Clock To, and Value Percent fields into account for all Defects that are considered structural defects.

O&M Grade

Describes the grade of O&M damage at the observation. The system automatically calculates the grade based on MACP Standards, taking the Clock At/From, Clock To, and Value Percent fields into account for all Defects that are considered O&M defects.

Structural Number

States the number of occurrences of the Structural defect in this single observation. Usually, this figure is 1. However, at the end of a continuous defect, the system will automatically calculate a number of occurrences based on the length of the defect and the Default Length for Continuous Defect Calculation option when the Use Pipe Section Length when Available for Continuous Defect Calculation option is enabled in the Storm Options module.

O&M Number

States the number of occurrences of the O&M defect in this single observation.
